About:
At TANG, we create an environment where everybody feels comfortable and can make new and close friends.  This is really an important part of the TANG experience since many of our activities require an intimate group setting where the kids can be open and honest with one another.  It allows us to discuss topics that may be uncomfortable in other settings.  And of course, we love to have lots of fun.  At night, we set up board games, movies, cards, and video games but if that’s not you’re thing, our campers enjoy just hanging out to talk or listen to music.  We also encourage the staff to be close and hang out with their campers and becoming friends.  Mentoring is a passion that all of our staff shares.

“Declassified”
…is our Identity theme for this year.  Being a teen is a time of growth, experimentation and discovery. It’s when we search for our identities and see where we exactly fit with the rest of the world. For Taiwanese Americans, this journey can be challenging and difficult. On the outside, we give off the image that everything is fine, but on the inside we’re struggling to fit in and be happy with our family, friends, and ourselves.

At TANG, we strive in the development of Taiwanese Americans by helping them discover their own personal identities. For some, the Taiwanese American identity can feel like classified information, locked and stored away inside of us. But it’s time to uncover those secrets and thus, this year’s theme for identity is “Declassified”. Identity brings us self-confidence, values, direction, beliefs, passion, joy, vision, and inner peace. Discovering our personal identities is the first step in becoming the individuals we are tomorrow. Together, we can uncover the secrets of our Taiwanese American identities or whatever identity you choose to accept.

This year our program will not have a formal speaker like last year.  Instead our program will be using a combination of fun small group activities and staff-led key note discussions to explore different areas of the Taiwanese American identity.  Our staff will provide their experiences from when they are growing up and provide an their own outlook on how to handle the challenges of life.

What to expect:
“What’s special about this place is that we all get along. We’re one big familiy.” – Zen Hong, High School

“TANG has been great. Meeting new people and everyone gets along, nobody makes fun of each other. And it’s just very special that I can’t experience anywhere else. So come to TANG!” – Tom Duh, High School

“What is great is that we’re not looked at just an Asian community but looked actually as Taiwanese kids that bond together because of where we come from. So you should come and become a part of this program!” – Yenddie Lin, High School

“TANG, my first and best camp ever!” – Howie Wu, Junior High
